Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest and most revered classical dance forms of India. It combines rhythm, expression, storytelling, music, and devotion through intricate footwork, graceful movements, and symbolic hand gestures.
Arangetram, meaning “ascending the stage,” is the debut solo performance of a Bharatanatyam student after years of dedicated training under the guidance of a guru.
Traditional Indian attire is preferred for ladies and girls. For men, business casual or semi-formal attire is fine.
The performance and associated ceremonies typically last several hours. Guests are encouraged to arrive on time and remain for the entire presentation if possible. Each dance item is typically 10 to 15 minutes while the central piece is about 30 to 40 minutes.
Yes, you may leave the auditorium and come back to watch the performance. But kindly do so in between the dances and not while the performance is going on.
